Our Children’s Programs are our commitment to enriching childhood, built on safety, delivering relevant solutions to local families, embracing holistic learning practices, and keeping children healthy and active. We strive to instil healthy attitudes about things like nutritious food and outdoor play.
Since 1893, the YMCA has been committed to instilling positive and healthy attitudes, providing children and young people a foundation for a healthy and happy life.
Children who do well in their early years, continue to do well throughout their schooling. This is why YMCA Children’s Programs exist – to help children get off to a great start and develop an enthusiasm for learning.
We believe that early years support is about much more than simply childcare and education, it’s about enriching children so they can develop to their full potential, preparing them for a future where they confidently and healthily step forward into every stage of their young lives, with bright and enquiring minds.
YMCA Children’s Programs include early learning centres, before and after school care and school holiday programs. This makes it as easy as possible for families to access all programs in one modern and convenient state of the art location.
Our educational programs focus on international best practice meaning that placing your child in YMCA Children’s Programs is the best possible choice you can make for your child’s development and education.
YMCA Children’s Programs are part of the school community, which makes the transition from early childhood programs to kinder and then to primary school as smooth as possible.
YMCA Torquay Early Learning Centre opened in October 2017 to provide care for children aged six weeks to five years. When Torquay Coast Primary opens next door in January 2018, Torquay YMCA ELC will also provide before- and after-school care.
Also in January 2018, two new centres on the same sites as Bannockburn College and Armstrong Creek Education Precinct (interim name) will begin providing before- and after-school care to these schools.
The YMCA not only provides an enriching environment for children but a safe one.
We strive to ensure that all YMCA Children’s Programs and practices exceed the standards set by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority in the National Quality Framework (NQF).
To make sure your child receives the best possible conditions, the NQF standards are infused into our daily operations and embedded throughout our program delivery, policies and procedures.
At the YMCA, your child will:
Furthermore, all YMCA educators are subject to police checks and a regularly reviewed Working with Children Check before joining the team.
We are also an Australian Childhood Foundation accredited child safe organisation. This means, that as a minimum, two educators are on duty at all times at our centres. This exceeds the minimum staffing requirements of the Education and Care Services National Law and helps ensure your child is safe, giving our qualified educators the time to concentrate on their individual needs.
Since the implementation of the Education and Care Services National Law, YMCA Victoria’s results are 16% higher than the national average, with 77% of our existing services meeting or exceeding the National Quality Standard.
